Baseball for kids · Slovakia
The first Slovak in MLB started out in Bratislava.
Where will the next one start? Maybe your child?
Slovakia has the talent — Adam Macko is the proof. All that was missing was a path for kids to reach baseball. In your town or village, just one parent or student can open that path: just tell us “we’re in”, we come, we train you, we lend you the equipment, and the kids get to try baseball — free, with a soft ball, no experience needed and with no need for you to know how to coach — the SBF coordinator will show you everything.
We’ll get back to you within 48 hours. It costs you nothing, and no experience is needed.
From a field in Bratislava all the way to MLB
Adam Macko was born in Bratislava and started playing baseball at home, with the Apollo club. When his family moved abroad, his talent found the room it didn’t have here at the time — and in May 2026 Adam became the first Slovak-born player to take the pitcher’s mound in MLB.
Honestly, we’re not saying the Slovak system raised Adam — he grew up elsewhere. But we’re saying something more important: Slovak talent exists. What we lack is a path that lets talent develop without leaving. We’re building that path together now — and it starts with the first training session in your town or village.
A 30-second hello from Adam to parents and kids
A sport where every child finds a place
No “bench-warmers.” Body type or a late start don’t decide who gets to play.
Every child plays
No sitting on the bench. Everyone gets to bat, run and field — in every game.
Safe contact
We start with soft balls and age-appropriate rules. No physical contact, or very little contact.
Team and individual
The togetherness of a team plus your own moment at bat — responsibility that builds confidence.
For every body type
Baseball doesn’t discriminate. Girls and boys play together, and every build has its own advantage in the game.
Great for beginners
Just four things: throw, catch, hit, run. The rest comes gradually, step by step.
No one plays in your town yet? Be the first.
You don’t need to know anything about baseball. It’s enough that you like kids and sport — we’ll teach you the rest. You open the door, we bring everything else.
Sign up your town or village
Fill in the form (2 minutes). Tell us how many kids might be interested.
We come to you
The SBF coordinator travels in to you. In a single day we train you and the kids try baseball live.
You keep going with support
You get the methodology, we lend you the equipment and run an initial training session. We’ll temporarily take the team under our wing and help you get started, until you can stand on your own feet.
No experience needed
All it takes is a sporty person (a parent or student) willing to spend time with kids. We’ll train you and hand you a ready-made training methodology.
No field needed
A team can start in a gym or a schoolyard. At first we play with a soft baseball.
You’re not on your own
The SBF provides the methodology, gear, training and temporary support for the team.
Add your town to the map
Every town that signs up appears on the map. Once it gathers at least 1 parent-coach + ~8 kids, the town “unlocks” and we add it to the first-training plan, which the SBF coordinator will arrange with you.
*Clubs in the campaign
From red to green on the map of towns and municipalities
Every dot on the map represents interest. There are two ways to add your interest in coaching or playing — depending on whether your town is still red or already green.
You're founding baseball here
You're a parent, a teacher, or just someone who wants kids in town to have a place to play baseball. Baseball isn't here yet — but it takes very little to make it happen.
- Fill in the form “I want to coach” or “I want to play”.
- Your dot (representing your town) on the map turns red. Tell your friends, the local school, neighbours — every new player who signs up shifts the colour and the status.
- At ~8 kids and 1 parent-coach you unlock the town. The SBF coordinator gets in touch.
- The first training, the methodology and loaner gear are all free. Your side: the kids and a space (a school yard works, or a gym in winter).
A baseball club is already here — join in
There's already a club in your town that's part of the development campaign. No need to wait for an unlock, or to gather more kids — just reach out to the contacts listed on this website.
- Fill in the “I want to play” form with your town and age category.
- We pass your contact straight to the local club — no waiting for a larger group of interested players.
- The club reaches out with the next training date and what to bring.
- If you enjoy youth sport, the club will happily welcome you as a volunteer coach or helper.
I want baseball in our town or village
It takes 2 minutes to fill in. The SBF coordinator will get back to you within 48 hours and arrange the next steps. It commits you to nothing.
When we come to you
We travel to the towns that have signed up. The first train-the-trainer session is free for kids and parents, and we lend the gear at no cost.
⚠️ Dates are rough placeholders — to be confirmed.
What parents ask most often
How much does it cost?+
Trying it out and the first training session cost nothing. We lend you the starter gear, so the first training sessions cost you nothing in equipment. All you need to provide is the kids and a space for the first sessions — in winter, a gym. How the team runs later varies by club, but getting started is deliberately low-cost.
Do I need to know how to play baseball?+
No. That’s exactly the whole point, and the SBF coordinator’s job — we come and teach you. You get the methodology, training and gear. All you need is your willingness and time to spend with kids.
Where and when is it played?+
You can start anywhere — a gym or a schoolyard is enough. We’ll set the date of the first training session in your town once enough parents and kids — or players — have signed up.
What ages is it for?+
The best start is ages 6–12, but baseball doesn’t rule out later starters. Categories: under 7 (U7), 8–9, 10–11, 12+, 15, 18, 23 and up to adult men.
What are soft baseballs, Baseball5 and tee-ball?+
These are safe, simple forms of baseball for beginners. We play with a soft baseball (nothing hurts), tee-ball = hitting off a tee with no pitching, Baseball5 = a simplified game with no bat or gloves — all you need is a ball and five players. Perfect for a gym.
What if we don’t have a field?+
You don’t need one. A team can start in a gym or a schoolyard. A full field is something the club that grows out of it sorts out later.
Is it safe? And is it a sport for girls too?+
Yes and yes. We start with soft baseballs and age-appropriate rules. Girls and boys play together, especially in the younger categories — neither build nor gender decides talent.
What exactly do I get as a parent-coach?+
Training (train-the-trainer), a ready-made training methodology, and we lend you free of charge the starter gear (balls, bats, bases and a batting tee) and temporary support for the team from the federation until you can stand on your own feet. You’re not on your own.
Am I committing to anything by filling in the form?+
No. It’s a no-obligation expression of interest. We’ll get in touch, the SBF coordinator will explain the details, and you decide.
What if I don’t want to play or coach — can I still get involved?+
Yes — baseball also needs umpires and scorers. In the sign-up form, choose the third option “I want to umpire / score”, fill in your contact details and you’ll receive a confirmation email. We’ll then get in touch and send you further instructions.
How does the town unlocking (red → green) work?+
The map shows where baseball stands in your town right now. Each dot has four states — and a town moves between them as parents and kids have signed up:
Two ways to join in:
• If your town is red or orange — fill in the form and help unlock it. No commitment, the first training is free and we lend you the gear.
• If your town is green — fill in the “I want to play” form and we pass your contact straight to the local club. They reply within 48 hours.
Contacts
The clubs listed on this site have actively joined the Getting Started with Baseball development campaign. We know that baseball is also played in other Slovak towns — Bratislava, Martin, Topoľčany and more — but mostly in men's leagues for now. If any club from these or other towns decides to start training for parents and their children, we'll be delighted to include them in this campaign, add their contacts to this site, and support them with an SBF coordinator.
